This is your chance to dive deep into the world of intaglio printmaking!  In this module-based set of workshops you’ll have the opportunity to learn all about making prints from various types of plates.  Students will have the chance to learn both acid and non-acid techniques as well as expand their knowledge of colour and multi-plate printing.  Whether you’re new to printmaking, or a seasoned pro, there will be new discoveries at each point. Customize your experience by taking a specific module of interest or take the full suite.

Module 1. Drypoint & Direct Intaglio  (no prior experience required)

Module 2.  Copperplate Etching  (no prior experience required)

Module 3.  Aquatint (Module 2 Recommended)

Module 4.  Multi-plate / Viscosity Printing  (Module 1, 2 or 3 Recommended)

Artist Bio: Laine Groeneweg is an artist and printmaker living in Hamilton. He received his BFA from York University and went on to train at Fondazione Il Bisonte Per Lo Studio Dell’Arte Grafica in Florence, Italy. Since then he has assumed the role of instructor, studio technician, and custom printer at a number of Canadian printmaking studios including the likes of Open Studio and Centre[3] for Print & Media Arts. Laine is also the founder of Smokestack – a custom print project studio in Hamilton. In his own art practice, Laine is most widely recognized for his work in mezzotint and intaglio printmaking. His prints have been shown both Nationally and Internationally including several solo and group exhibitions, and International juried printmaking biennials. Laine’s work is also held in the permanent collections of the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts (Ekaterinburg, Russia), Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), and in the archives at Fondazione Il Bisonte (Florence,Italy).

We are unable to provide refund/credit for withdrawal fewer than 10 business days prior to first class. No make-up classes/substitutions provided.
