Intro to Sound Art: Listening, Capturing, Synthesizing and Arranging

This is a very open-ended introductory audio production workshop designed to give you the tools to create your own sound art! Learn the skills from a professional sound artist and producer. Here students will explore exercises in deep listening, how to capture sounds (from foundational microphone use to digital audio capture techniques), how to use different audio-based software, and finally discuss ideas for presenting their audio compositions.

Artist Bio: Aaron Hutchinson is a musician, producer/engineer and sound artist from Hamilton Ontario. They have extensive live and studio experience with Dan Edmonds, WTCHS, Sianspheric, Eschaton, Haolin Munk, Canadian Winter, the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band and the Redeemer Sinfonia. These ensembles have taken Aaron to perform in Karlsruhe (Germany), New Orleans, New York City, Buffalo, Quebec and all over Ontario. Aaron won the 2012 Hamilton Arts Award for emerging artist in New Media, and is a founding member of the DIY artist collective Hamilton Audio Visual Node and its associated music label HAVNrecords, where they have coordinated the release of over 50 tapes, CDs and vinyl records since 2013 (many of which have been engineered by Aaron).
