Carol Priamo

November 10 - December 6, 2014
Opening Reception: Friday, November 14

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

All art is alchemy in that it selects and incorporates various elements that interact and transform one another to create a new and “greater” reality with its own properties and an independent existence as if by magic.

Carol Priamo is a Hamilton-based artist who has exhibited her photography, collage, mixed media and installation in Hamilton, Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto. She has an MA from the University of Toronto, and has studied design at OCAD and mixed media collage with Jonathan Talbot, Karen Wallace and Marla Panko. With her long-time passion for architecture and design, she intuitively selects, manipulates, and transforms her photographic images, drawings and designs using hands on and digital tools to generate multi-dimensional, tapestry-like photomontages of vibrant colour, pattern and texture. This process of transmuting raw materials into a unified work is alchemic – one step leads to another and that step changes everything – and that “everything” leads somewhere new. Experimentation is key and the driving force in pursuing her creative voice. Her aim is to engage the viewers’ curiosity and imagination and evoke a shift in the perception of everyday ‘reality’.
