Curated By: Centre[3] dnd the HWDSB present

December 12 - December 23, 2014
Opening Reception: Friday, December 12

Centre3’s Members’ Gallery presents “Art is the Nu Steel” for the month of December. The show opens Friday, December 12th in conjunction with the James Street North Art Crawl. The exhibition features the work of students currently participating in the Nu Steel Arts Education program at Centre3 and will include hand-printed t-shirts and works on paper. Featured items include custom screen printed t-shirts, screen printed Christmas cards, block printed wrapping paper and original dry points and etchings. This is a wonderful opportunity to support alternative arts education in Hamilton and pick up unique, hand made gifts for the holiday season.

The NuSteel program is an alternative arts education program run through a joint partnership with Centre3 and the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board’s System Alter-Ed. Students participating in the NuSteel program have an opportunity to engage in cross-curricular projects that culminate in hand-printed products, including posters, t-shirts, bags, and postcards. The program covers a variety of subjects, including English, Visual Art, History, Careers and Civics.

At Centre3, students have the opportunity to participate in Hamilton’s monthly Art Crawls, and experience the life of an artist-entrepreneur. Students also have the opportunity to work in a community of artists, to observe artists in their craft, and to learn valuable new skills in this rich environment. The referral process for this program is through the HWDSB’s Central Intake. Students interested in this program can ask their home school guidance counsellors for a referral to System Alter-Ed. We also welcome referrals for students in the care of CAS, via their case workers.

We hope to see members from our arts and education communities out to support our youth at this month’s Art Crawl.
