Opening Reception: Friday, May 13 – 7-10 pm

In partnership, Centre[3], Mental Heath Rights Coalition, and Community Story Strategies present My Voice, My Say! a community arts project funded by Canada Council for the Arts that links media artists with persons of lived experiences of mental health and addiction in a collaborative experience through digital storytelling.

Through the use of sensor technology, My Voice, My Say! exhibition invites the viewer to engage with several stories of lived experiences of mental illness, addiction and resilience through touch interaction with symbolic objects.

Over the course of eight weeks, participants worked with digital artists Jennifer LaFontaine and Emmy Pantin to create their own personal narrative in the form of a digital story that explored the themes of Transformations, Aftermath, and Recurrences.

My Voice, My Say! proudly merges the sectors of art and mental health, empowering artists and individuals with lived experience of mental health and addiction to share their stories with the community and take an active role in challenging predominant notions associated with mental health in Hamilton. This project has given persons with lived experience of mental health and addiction an artistic platform, and helped to breakdown the stigmas associated with mental illness and addiction to promote an inclusive, culturally diverse community.
