The new Artistic Director of Centre[3]

Centre[3] is excited to announce that our new Artistic Director is Lesley Loksi Chan! Chan will begin her new position on June 1st, 2021. With her international and national artistic programming experience in both visual and media arts, Chan will continue to elevate our programming at Centre[3].

“I am thrilled to be a part of Centre[3] for Artistic + Social Practice which is known for its strong support for artists locally and internationally, its outstanding exhibitions, and its impactful education programs. It’s a privilege to have this opportunity to continue cultivating the critical and creative dialogue that exists through the Centre’s collaborations and I hope to bring a spirit of openness, curiosity, and care,” states Chan.

As well as being a practicing artist and arts educator, Chan’s creative research and productions have been supported by SSHRC, Ontario Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts and she is a recipient of the Chalmers Fellowship Grant. She holds a BA in Anthropology and women’s Studies from McMaster University and a BFA andMFA in Film from York University. She has won awards from the United Nations Summit on the Information Society, Canadian New Media Awards, the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, and Images Festival. As an arts educator, she teaches in community-based organizations and in the department of Integrated Media at OCAD University.

Centre[3] is very excited to have Chan’s expertise and achievements within media arts, which compliments our capital development of our new film studio and audio/recording booth. Her experience of having her work exhibited in national and international film festivals including the Vancouver International Film Festival, InsideOut Film Festival, Die Beginen in Rostock, Germany, and Open Cinema in St. Petersburg, Russia will benefit our membership at Centre[3] and our larger community in Hamilton.
