As 2016 winds down, NuSteel picks up momentum!

NuSteel has been busy the last few weeks!

In week 13, NuSteelers finished folding and packaging Custom Holiday Cards for the HWDSB foundation gala on Thursday, Dec. 1st at Liuna Station. Four NuSteel students attended the gala  and spoke onstage about the program! Also in week 13, students continued to work on their holiday gift projects, which include: stockings, t-shirts, hoodies, tapestries and cards. Students continued their projects into week 14, with Georgie Russell coming in to help with sewing on some of the projects. Below are some of the students work!

As part of week 14, students visited Painter/Musician Christina Sealey’s studio on James Street North, and were really lucky to have Christie come into the classroom to give feedback to students on their individual projects. Students  also continued their student led, documentary video project with assistance from Jody Boston and Eric Wickham. Jody and Eric returned for the prep and early part of the December Art Crawl to help document some printing, pop-up shop set-up, and to get footage of the hustle and bustle in Centre[3] and on James street north surrounding the Art Crawl. Students had their work work on display at Centre[3] during Art Crawl, and will promote their handmade Christmas cards during Centre[3]’s Small is Good member’s exhibition currently on until January 2 in the main gallery space of Centre[3].

As of week 15, filming for the documentary showcasing the NuSteel program has been completed and students now have begun editing the film footage which they will continue to do into the New Year!
