Here's what the class is all about...

Over the course of two days Tamarind Printer Eric Euler will introduce students to the basic mechanics of intaglio drypoint printing on an etching press using oil based inks. Hands on demonstrations will cover tool use and methods, paper preparation, plate preparation, registration, blend roll techniques, inking and wiping the plate, chine-collé , and printing plexiglass plates on an etching press. The workshop will begin with a print showing of professional prints. It would be best for students to arrive with a few sketches in mind!

Eric Euler is a Canadian artist currently residing between northern and southern Ontario. He completed his BFA at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2009 and his MFA at Louisiana State University in 2015.

Since graduating with his MFA his time has been divided between collaboratively printing lithographs while studying at Tamarind Institute and researching his next body work. His artwork explores aspects of his identity through drawing, printmaking, painting, installation, and community practices. Art history, psychology, critical theory, rock n roll, pop culture, politics, the meaning of materials, and the ubiquitous mosaic of digital and analog ephemera guide the visual languages that permeate through his bodies of work.

His new imagery responds to nature, curiosity, and instinct. He states “The writings of Carl Jung have proven vital in restoring a more intuitive and reactionary creative process. Jung’s ideas concerning the shadow archetype and UFO phenomena have helped charge my introspective paintings and prints.” Eric’s expressive works are informed by a sense of place, occasionally reflecting the regional identity and landscape of Northern Ontario and New Mexico, yet simultaneously conjuring feelings of the unfamiliar, of vulnerability, and of renewal.
