About the Exhibition

Portals is a visual exploration of transformation when one reality dissolves into another. This collection offers space for reflection, imagination, and emotional resonance through a series of visual meditations on doors, archways, and imagined thresholds. Viewers are invited to explore each alluring welcome and cross a threshold to imagine an unseen world of possibility and wonder.

Each portal is more than an architectural form; it is a metaphor for change. Some lead into shadow, others into light.  All are invitations—to step beyond the familiar, to question what lies ahead, and to embrace the mystery of what cannot yet be seen. Whether literal or symbolic, each image asks: What waits on the other side? And who might we become when we cross through?

In a world that often demands certainty, Portals celebrates mystery and ambiguity. It honours the beauty of transition, the tension of the unknown, and the thrill of discovery.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

“My innovative art practice merges photography, collage, and digital media to create intricate, tapestry-like compositions of vibrant colour, pattern and texture. My work is rooted in a deep passion for historic architecture—urban facades, ornamental details, and streetscapes as the starting point for my visual explorations. I combine, transform and blend my photographic images with found materials, textures and my paper collages to create surreal, semi-abstract works that retain echoes of the original while becoming something entirely new – magical, layered, and rich with meaning.

The process is intuitive and alchemic—each step leads to another, and that step changes everything which always reveals something entirely new and unexpected. Exploration and experimentation are the driving forces in this creative journey – a journey without a map.

I hope to engage the viewers’ imagination, curiosity and sense of wonder and evoke a shift in their perception of the cities’ unique architectural character – as one of inherent beauty, underlying order and endless variety.

My award-winning work has been featured in publications, exhibited in juried shows and collected across Canada and the United States. My dedication as an advocate for heritage preservation, an active contributor to arts and heritage organizations, as well as an author of books on Canadian architecture, all reflect my commitment to support creative dialogue and cultural awareness.” – Carol Priamo
