Centre[3] welcomes submissions from artists and curators at all stages of their careers and encourages submissions from equity seeking communities — including but not limited to Indigenous, Black and racialized persons, women, members of the LGBTTIQQ2SA+ community, and persons with disabilities. Featured Residency

Ness Lee

Ness Lee is a Chinese-Hakka Canadian born in 1989. Studying at The Ontario College of Art and Design, they have received their Bachelor of Design in Illustration. Based in Toronto, their work has been shown in institutions such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, the Gardiner Museum, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, as well as galleries in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Taiwan, Montreal and Toronto. Lee has also participated in mural festivals in Canada and Internationally in Hyderabad, India and Cozumel, Mexico.

Centre[3] x Martha Street Studio Residency Exchange

Centre[3] has an annual residency exchange program with Martha Street Studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Every year, Centre[3] sends one of our artist members to Martha Street Studio for a two-week residency. In return, we welcome an artist member from Martha Street Studio for a two week residency at Centre[3].

Each organization selects one artist from its membership to attend two weeks of complimentary studio time at the partner organization where artists work on a print-based project and also receive the following:

  • $600 artist fee
  • $600 towards additional expenses
  • up to three hours of technical assistance at the partner organization
  • a one-year membership to the partner organization

The artist determines the residency start date in consultation with MSS.

Submission Guidelines

Artists must be able to work independently in their chosen medium and will arrange the timing of the residency with the partner organization. Artists are further responsible for arranging their own transportation and accommodation. All applicants must have a valid Centre[3] annual membership.

  • Artist Statement and Bio (1 page maximum)
  • Project proposal (1 page maximum) of work to be completed while at Martha Street Studio
  • Current CV (2 page maximum)
  • 10 images (maximum) as jpegs (1024 x 768 pixels, 72 dpi)
  • Corresponding image list with title, medium, dimensions, year

Submissions open Friday November 22nd, 2024 and close December 21st, 2024

Centre[3] Annual Members’ Group Exhibition

Centre[3]’s Annual Members’ Group Exhibition takes place in the Main Gallery. Works submitted by members are curated by a rotating selections committee made up of staff, board members, and community members. 

To apply, please combine all files in a sharable google drive or dropbox folder and submit the link to programs@centre3.com.

  • A brief artist bio and any other relevant information you would like to include;
  • Up to 10 supporting images of submitted work(s). Images should be at least 100 dots per inch (dpi);
  • For audio-visual submissions, please share the URL of a Vimeo, YouTube, or webpage.

  • To be eligible, you must be a current member of Centre[3]. To become a member or renew your membership, info@centre3.com 
  • Current Centre[3] employees are not eligible;
  • All submitted works must be original.
  • Each artist may submit a maximum of five works for consideration. The programming committee may not elect to include all submitted works in the exhibition.
  • There are no limitations on medium or subject matter. The programming committee will curate the exhibition based on submissions received.

Centre[3] Members’ Gallery Exhibition

Members’ Gallery Objectives

  • Provide Centre[3] members a dedicated space to exhibit and sell their artwork
  • Engage the public and arts communities by supporting local artists working across multiple disciplines
  • Exhibitions in the Members’ Gallery run for 8 weeks

Centre[3] Hamilton-Based Residency

The Centre[3] Hamilton-Based Residency is a 12-week self-directed residency for an artist in any stage of their career who is living and working in the Hamilton region. This residency offers artists dedicated studio time, space and technical support to work in facilities for traditional printmaking – including lithography, silkscreen, and intaglio – as well as digital media production. This residency culminates with an exhibition in one of Centre[3]’s galleries.

The residency includes:

  • $200 Honorarium
  • Free membership for one year ($50 value)
  • Access to the printmaking or digital studios for up to 12 weeks, during studio hours ($375 value)
  • Five hours of free tech assistance
  • 10 sheets Fabriano paper ($100 value) OR 5 feet of digital paper ($200 value)
  • Group exhibition in one of Centre[3]’s galleries

Centre[3] Incite Foundation Residency

The Centre[3] incite Foundation Residency is a 12-week self-directed residency for artists working across multiple disciplines. This residency offers artists dedicated studio time, space and technical support to work in facilities for traditional printmaking, including lithography, silkscreen, and intaglio, as well as digital media production, and culminates with an exhibition in Centre[3]’s Main Gallery.

The incite artist in residence is selected by Centre[3]’s Artistic Director. We are grateful for support from The incite Foundation for the Arts.
