Opening Reception: Friday, January 11, 2019 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm
In January 2017, I drove alone from Hamilton to Northern Winnipeg. I was invited to live in Sagkeeng, First Nation to work with the Elders on a Climate Change Summit. Little did I know, it was the beginning of my own healing journey.
While driving through the prairies and then to the North West Territories I felt an energy calling to me which seemed to originate from nature and the land itself.
It is only now after introspection and the passage of time I understand it as a path to heal my spirit and a reset after the loss of my mother. There is a saying, when you travel far enough you find yourself.
It was through the lens of the camera I tried to capture the soul of the land. I was mesmerized by the serenity emanating from the frozen ground. Especially in temperatures of -50 it was this connection which kept me hypnotized.
This journey and my time on the prairies has provided me with a deeper understanding of where I fit within the context of the world.
I recognize and understand the duality of both my insignificance and my potential as a human to strive for greatness and change.
I met myself where the soul is never frozen, in the power of the land.
