Curious about incorporating woven textiles into your work? Join us for a 1 day workshop with local artist Amanda Rataj to discover the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. You’ll learn how to use our new equipment as well as weaving techniques that utilize colour, texture, and pattern – skills you can use to create textile art, cloth, clothes, and more.
About the Instructor
Artist Bio: Amanda Rataj is an artist and arts educator based in Hamilton, Ontario with a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University. Recent exhibitions include Crosscurrents: Canada In the Making at the Textile Museum of Canada (2018), and Nothing is Newer Than Tradition (Art Gallery of Burlington, 2017). Amanda has been an artist in residence at the Icelandic Textile Arts Centre, and recently studied at Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto, Japan

Fees must be paid in full upon registration. Centre[3] reserves the right to cancel courses 2 business days before the start date. Courses cancelled by Centre[3] will be refunded in full. Participants who withdraw 10 or more business days prior to first class will be issued a credit for the full amount of their registration. We are unable to provide refund/credit for withdrawal fewer than 10 business days prior to first class. No make-up classes/substitutions provided.
Many of our workshops and courses make use of upper & lower levels of the facility and may involve small amounts of physical labour depending on the processes involved. Accessibility
Centre[3] is partially physically accessible. We have a level entrance leading to our shop, information desk, galleries, washroom and traditional print studio. Unfortunately, we do not have automatic doors or an elevator. Our silkscreen studios and digital lab are only accessible by stairs. We are working toward becoming a physically accessible space in the future.
