Databending & Glitch Art

Sunday, November 28, 2021 @ 1:00 Pm – 2:30pm

The Web of Connections symposium brings together artists from Interweavings and Remediations to share their work and exchange on the common topics and themes from these two exhibitions curated by Nicole Burisch and Sally Frater. This online gathering will include presentations and workshops around the intersections of technology, textiles, craft, and materiality.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In this beginner-level workshop, participants will be introduced to databending and glitch art methodologies, followed by a discussion of its applications to textile processes. Through the course of this tutorial, participants will be taught the difference between various file formats, and shown how those interact with different software to produce unexpected results.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Robin Chantree (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer currently residing in Tkaranto/Toronto. They hold an MA in Fashion from X University, and a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Their practice spans visual art, illustration, fashion and graphic design, and often consists of them researching and mixing analogue and digital tools. They are interested in how clothing embodies historical and cultural norms, and how these ideas can be challenged through the materiality of garments.
